Essential Brain & Body Fuel

MPI Toronto On February 26, 2018

Whatever you do to your body, you do to your brain as well. Food intake is no exception.

Most people think about food as being important to feed their body, but without realizing it, these same substances are the fodder for our mental and brain health, so we better make good choices!

Do you have health concerns?  Are you dealing with stress? As professionals many of us live busy lives and work irregular hours that inhibit us from preparing foods and eating properly.

There are however simple and effective ways to leverage nutrition so it has a positive impact on your energy levels, ability to focus, brain function, productivity, health and wellbeing; currently and long term.

In this article I offer my professional advice on how to access proper nutrition, and share a personal perspective on the amazing effect proper nutrition can have on an individual’s health.

The topic of health and brain nutrition has been a personal passion of mine for decades and ties into the work I do as a Brain Fitness Expert who supports individuals and organization in creating Fit Brains and Fit Lives.

Years ago I had the great opportunity to interview an abundance of nutrition experts on my wellness TV show. One guest in particular stood out because his knowledge and research was unparalleled.

Dr. Joel Wallach (veterinarian, pathologist, naturopath), was my most frequent reoccurring guest as viewers learned so much from his message that has been reversing health issues of people across the planet for decades now.

My mother who had been struggling with early warning signs of premature aging and disease, which were affecting her physical and mental health, decided to follow his approach.  Within weeks everything began to reverse and the progress continued.

Two decades later she feels and looks better now than she did then.  This is possible to achieve, we hear and see these stories all the time.

The “right” essential nutrition can benefit your brain-body by:‚Äč

  • Keeping your memory intact
  • Increasing your energy levels
  • Repairing existing health issues
  • Improving your focus and concentration
  • Eliciting a more healthy and positive attitude
  • Losing weight without dieting
  • Slowing down the aging process…and more!
Every brain and body needs to consume 90 Essential Nutrients on a daily basis; 60 minerals, 16 Vitamins, 12 Amino Acids and 2 Essential Fatty Acids.  These are the backbone of our health and we must ingest them if we want to prevent disease, heal current issues and achieve healthy longevity.

Deriving all these nutrients from our food supply is next to impossible; and it only gets harder as busy professionals with limited time to prepare healthy home cooked meals. However even small changes in your diet and daily routine can help your brain function better and improve your overall health.

Quick tips to consider:

Supplementing is crucial.  There are superior and inferior products on the market and specific criteria to look for when choosing a proper supplement.

Do your best to incorporate ample hydration, a variety of fruits and raw and cooked vegetables, protein sources (eggs, nuts & meats), and healthy fats such as butter, coconut oil and cheese.

Avoid processed, fried and refined foods as they cause oxidative stress, inflammation and a build up of plaque - not just on your teeth and arteries, but also in your brain.
